Looking For An Echo

5 6 6 -6 -7 -7 -6
At Day-dream Ju-nior High School,
6 -5 -5 6 -6 6
We used to har-mon-ise,
6 6 6 -6 -7 -7 -6
Me and Frank-ie and Jimm-y,
6 -5 -5 6 -6 6
And some I-tal-ian guy.
-6 -6 -6 -5 -7 -7
We were sing-ing old-ies,
-6 6 6 6 -6 5
But they were new-ies then,
-4 5 -5 -5 -5 -5 -4 -5 -5 -5 -5
And to-day when I play my old for-ty fives,
5 -5 6 -6 6
I re-mem-ber when…

We prac-tised in a sub-way,
In a lobb-y or hall,
Crowd-ed in a door-way,
Sing-ing doo-wops to a wall,

And if we went to a part-y,
And they would’nt let us sing,
We’d lock our-selves in the bath-room,
And no-bod-y could get in!

‘Cause we were look-ing for an ec-ho,
An ans-wer to our sound,
A place to be in harm-o-ny,
A place we al-most found.

And the girls would gath-er ’round us,
And our heads would reall-y swell,
We’d sing songs by The Moon-glows,
The Harp-tones and The Dells,

And when we sang “Sin-cere-ly”
We reall-y sang it high,
Even though it was fal-set-to,
We al-most reached the sky.

We’ve sung a lot of chang-es since 1955,
And a lot of bad arr-ange-ments,
We’ve tried to harm-o-nise,
Now we’ve turned in-to old-ies,
But we were new-ies then…
And to-day when I play my old 45’s,
I re-mem-ber when…

We were look-ing for an ec-ho,
An ans-wer to our sound,
A place to be in harm-o-ny,
A place we al-most found.
