Christmas at Ground Zero

There’s a change of key near the end. You’ll need a G harp and an Eb
harp.

G harp
7 -8 7 -7 7 -9 -9
It’s Christ-mas at Ground Ze-ro

7 -8 7 -7 7 -6
There’s mus-ic in the air

7 -8 7 7 -9 -9
The sleigh bells are ring-in’

7 7 -8 7 7 7 -9 -9
And the ca-ro-lers are sing-in’

7 7 -8 7 -7 7 -6
While the air raid si-rens blare

7 -8 7 -7 7 -9 -9
It’s Christ-mas at Ground Ze-ro

7 -8 7 -7 7 -6
The but-ton has been pressed

7 -8 7 -9 7 -8 7 -9
The ra-di-o just let us know

7 -8 -8 7 -7 6
That «This is not a test…»

8 8 8
Ev-‘ry-where

8 8 8 -8 8 -8 -7
The at-om bombs are drop-pin’

8 8 8 8 8 8 -8 -9 8
It’s the end of all hu-ma-ni-ty

8 8 8
No more time

8 -8 8 -9 -8 -7
For last mi-nute shop-pin’

8 8 8 6
It’s time to face

-9 -9 8 8 -8 7
Your fi-nal de-sti-ny

7 -8 7 -7 7 -9 -9
It’s Christ-mas at Ground Ze-ro

7 -8 7 -7 7 -6
There’s pa-nic in the crowd

7 7 -8 7 -9
We can dodge de-bris

7 7 -8 -9
While we trim the tree

7 7 -8 -8 7 -7 6
Un-der-neath a mush-room cloud

8 8 8
You might hear

8 8 8 -8 8 -8 -7
Some rein-deer on your roof-top

-8 8 8 8 8 -8 -9 8
Or Jack Frost on your win-dow-sill

-8 -8 8 8 8 8
But if some-one’s climb-in’

-8 8 -7 -6
Down your chim-ney

-8 -8 -8 -8 -8 9
You bet-ter load your gun

-9 8 -8 7
And shoot to kill

7 -8 7 -7 7 -9 -9
It’s Christ-mas at Ground Ze-ro

7 7 7 -8 -8 -8 -7 7 -6
And if the ra-dia-tion level’s o-kay

7 7 -8 7 -9
I’ll go out with you

7 -8 -8 7 -9
And see the all new

7 -8 -8 -8 7 -7 6
Mu-ta-tions on New Year’s Day

Eb harp

6 -6 6 -5 6 7 7
It’s Christ-mas at Ground Ze-ro

6 -6 6 -5 6 5
Just se-conds left to go

6 -6 6 7 7
I’ll duck and co-ver

6 6 -6 6 7 7
With my Yule-tide lo-ver

6 6 -6 6 -5 6 5
Un-der-neath the mis-tle-toe

6 -6 6 -5 6 7 7
It’s Christ-mas at Ground Ze-ro

6 6 -6 -6 6 -5 6 5
Now the mis-siles are on their way

6 6 -6 6 7
What a cra-zy fluke

6 6 6 -6 5
We’re gon-na get nuked

Christmas 1915

SPOKEN

1915 on Christmas Day,

On the western front, the guns all died away,

And lyin’ in the mud, on bags of sand,

We heard a German sing, from No Man’s Land,

He had a tenor voice, so pure and true,

The words were strange, but every note, we knew,

Soaring o’er the living, dead and damned,

The German sang of peace, from No Man’s Land.

They left their trenches and we, left ours,

Beneath tin hats the smiles, bloomed like, wild flowers,

With photos, cigarettes and pots of wine,

We built a soldier’s truce, on the front line.

Their singer was a lad of 21,

We begged another song, before the dawn,

And sitting, in the mud and blood and fear,

He sang again a song all longed to hear.

CHORUS

6 -6 6 5 -6 6 4 5

Si-i-lent Night, no cann-ons roar,

7 7 -7 -7 -6 -6 6 -6 -7 6

A King is born of peace for-ev-er more,

-6 -5 6 5

All’s calm, all’s bright,

7 7 -6 6 -5 5

All broth-ers hand in hand,

5 -5 -5 -5 5 -4 -4 4 -3 4

In 19 and 15 in No Man’s Land.

SPOKEN

And in the morning, the guns boomed, in the rain,

And we killed them and they killed us again,

At night they charged, we fought them, hand to hand,

I killed the boy, who sang, in No Man’s Land.

CHORUS (AS ABOVE)

Silent Night, no cannons roar,

A king is born of peace forever more,

All’s calm, all’s bright,

All brothers hand in hand,

And that young soldiers sings,

Well the Captains and the Kings,

Built No Man’s Land.

Sleep in heavenly peace.

Christian Island

I think it sounds best in key of A, but
key of C works too.

6 8 -8 7 6 5 6 7 -6
I’m sailing down the summer wind

-6 -6 6 7 7 7 -8
I got whiskers on my chin

8 -8 7 7 -7 -6 6
And I like the mood I’m in

7 7 8 8 8 -8 7 7 7
As I while away the time of day

7 7 6 7 7 7 7 -7
In the lee of Christian Island

8 -8 7 5 6 7 -6
Tall and strong she dips and reels

-6 6 7 7 7 -8
I call her Silver Heels

8 -8 7 7 -7 -6 6
And she tells me how she feels

7 7 8 8 8 8 8 -8 7 7
She’s a good old boat and she’ll stay afloat

6 6 7 7 7 7 -8 7 -7
Through the toughest gales and keep smiling

7 7 8 8 8 7 7 -6 -6 6
But for one more day she would like to stay

6 6 6 6 -6 6 6 7
In the lee of Christian Island

I’m sailing down the summer day
Where fish and seagulls play
I put my troubles all away
And when the gale comes up I’ll fill my cup
With the whiskey of the highlands
She’s a good old ship and she’ll make the trip
From the lee of Christian Island

Tall and strong she slips along
I sing for her a song
And she leans into the wind
She’s a good old boat and she’ll stay afloat
Through the toughest gales and keep smilin’
When the summer ends we will rest again
In the lee of Christian Island
When the summer ends we will rest again
In the lee of Christian Island

Christ is risen (two harp parts)

There is a call response chorous that may be played by two harps (H1
and H2) or just 1 harp. It would probably sound better to drop the 2nd
harp down a whole octave, but this is easier to play as it doesn’t
have 3 and 2 bends.

Christ is Risen — Graham Kendrick

5 -4 5 -4 -5 6 -5 5 5
In the tomb so cold they laid Him,
5 -4 5 -5 -4
Death its victim claimed
5 -4 5 -4 -5 6 -5 5 5
Pow’rs of hell, they could not hold HIm
-5 5 -4 4 4
Back to life he came!

CHOROUS
7 -7 7 6
H1: Christ is risen
7 -7 7 6
H2: Christ is risen
-6 6 -5 6 7
H1: Death has been conquered
-6 6 -5 6 7
H2: Death has been conquered
7 -7 7 6
H1: Christ is risen
7 -7 7 6
H2: Christ is risen
-6 -7 7 -8 7 -7 77
H1+H2: He shall reign forevermore

2. Hell has spent its fury on Him
Left Him crucified
Yet, by blood, he boldly conquered
Sin and death defied.

3. Now the fear of death is broken,
Love has won the crown
Pris’ners of the darkness listen,
Walls are tumbling down

4. Raised from death to heaven ascending
Love’s exalted King
Let His song of joy unending,
Through the nations ring.
