An August summer night

Soldiers passing by

The future’s in the air

Take me to the magic of the moment

On a glory night

Where the children of tomorrow dream away

In the wind of change

Walking down the street

Distant memories

Are buried in the past forever

Like a stormwind that will ring

The freedom bell for peace of mind

Wind Beneath My Wings — Bette Midler (Bb)
-6 6 5 -56
Wo-o-o-o-o
6 -55 -5
O-o-o-oh
3 5 -5 6 -5 5 -4 4 4 -3”
It must have been cold there in my shadow
3 5 -5 6 -5 5 -4 5 4
To never have sunlight on your face
-4 5-5 5 -4 4 4 5 -4 -4 4 -3
You were content to let me shine that’s your way
-5 5 -5 5 -44 5 -4
You always walked a step behind
3 5 -5 6 -5 5 -4 4 4 -3”
So I was the one with all the glory
3 5 -5 6 -5 5 -4 5 4
While you were the one with all the strength
4 -5 5 -5 5 -4 4 5 -4 -4 4 -3
A Beautiful face without a name for so long
4 -5 5 -5 5 -4 4 -6 6
A Beautiful smile to hide the pain
5 -6 -77 -7 -6 6 -5 6 5
Did you ever know that your my hero
5 -6-7 7 -7-6 6 -6 6
And everything I would like to be
-6-7 7 -7 -6 6 -6 6 5 4
I can fly higher than an eagle
3 -4 5 -5 5 -44 -4 4
For you are the wind beneath my wings
3 5 -5 6-5 5 -4 4 4 -3”
It might have appeared to go unnoticed
3 5 -5 6 -5 5 -4 5 4
But I’ve got it all here in my heart
4 -5 5 -5 5 -4 4 5 -4 4 -4 4 -3 3
I want you to know I know the truth, of course I know it
-55 -5 5 -4 4 -6 6

I can fly higher than an eagle

Beneath My Wings
Remember, it’s a folk song, there are a lot of different versions.
-4 -4 -4 5 5 5 -4 4 4 4 -3″ 3
Two lovely sisters were a walkin’ side by side
-5 -5 5 -5 5 -4
Oh the wind and- rain
5 6 6 6 6 5 -4 4 4 -3″ 3
One pushed the other in the water so deep
-4 5 -5 -5 5 -4 4 -3″ 3
And she cried a dreadful wind and rain
She floated on down to the miller’s pond
Oh the wind and rain
She floated on down to the miller’s pond
And she cried a dreadful wind and rain
He hooked her up by the tail of her gown
Oh the wind and rain
He hooked her up by the tail of her gown
And she cried a dreadful wind and rain
He made fiddle strings of her long black hair
Oh the wind and rain
He made fiddle strings of her long black hair
And she cried a dreadful wind and rain
He made fiddle pegs of her long finger bones
Oh the wind and rain
He made fiddle pegs of her long finger bones
And she cried a dreadful wind and rain
And the only tune that the fiddle would play
Oh the wind and rain
And the only tune that the fiddle would play
Was oh the dreadful wind and rain

Oh how do you do
7 -6 -6 -5 -4
Young Wil-ly Mc-Bride
7 7 -7 -7 7 -8 8
Do you mind if I sit here
-8 7 -5 -6 6
Down by your grave-side
6 6 6 6 7
And rest for a while
7 7 -6 -6 -5 -4
In the warm sum-mer sun

I’ve been walk-ing all day

And I’m near-ly done

And I see by your grave-stone
-8 -8 8 -9 -9 8
You were on-ly nine-teen

When you joined the great fal-len

In nine-teen six-teen

Well I hope you died quick

And I hope you died clean

Or Wil-ly Mc-Bride
8 -9 8 -8 7 7 7
Was is it slow and ob-scene
7 7 -8 -8 -8 -8 8
Did they beat the drums slow-ly
-9 -9 -9 -9 -9 8 -8 7
Did they play the fife low- ly
7 7 -8 -8 -8 -8
Did they sound the death march
-8 8 -9 9 -9 -8
As they low-ered you down
-8 8 -9 -9 -9 -9 9 -9 -9 8
Did the band play the last post and cho-rus
-8 8 -9 -9
Did the pipes play
-9 9 -9 -9 -9 -9 8
The Flow-ers of the For-est
And did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind
In some loyal heart is your memory enshrined
And though you died back in 1916
To that loyal heart you’re forever nineteen
Or are you a stranger without even a name
Forever enshrined behind some old glass pane
In an old photograph torn, tattered, and stained
And faded to yellow in a brown leather frame
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
The sun shining down on these green fields of France
The warm wind blows gently and the red poppies dance
The trenches have vanished long under the plow
No gas, no barbed wire, no guns firing now
But here in this graveyard that’s still no mans land
The countless white crosses in mute witness stand
To man’s blind indifference to his fellow man
And a whole generation were butchered and damned
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
And I can’t help but wonder oh Willy McBride
Do all those who lie here know why they died
Did you really believe them when they told you the cause
Did you really believe that this war would end wars
Well the suffering, the sorrow, the glory, the shame
The killing and dying it was all done in vain
Oh Willy McBride it all happened again
And again, and again, and again, and again
Did they beat the drums slowly
Did they play the fife lowly
Did they sound the death march as they lowered you down
Did the band play the last post and chorus
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Wil-low weep for me

Bend your branch-es green a-long

the stream that runs to sea

Lis-ten to my plea

Lis-ten wil-low and weep for me

Gone my lov-ers dream

Love-ly sum-mer dream

Gone and left me here to

To marry him she did agree,
But when they went to get her parents’ consent,
They said, «This could never be,» hmmm, hmmm, hmmm…
«I love Willie Moore,» sweet Annie replied,
«Better than I love my life,
And l would rather die than weep here and cry,
Never to be his wife,» hmmm, hmmm, hmmm…
That very same night sweet Anne disappeared,
They searched the country ’round
In a little stream by the cabin door,
The body of sweet Annie was found’ hmmm, hmmm, hmm
Sweet Annie’s parents they live all alone,
One mourns, the other cries,
ln a little green mound in front of their door
The body of sweet Annie now lies.
Willie Moore scarce spoke that anyone knew,
Soon from his friends did part;
And the last heard of him was he’s on Montreal
Where he died of a broken heart.

WILLIE AND THE HAND JIVE
By Johnny Otis
I know a cat named Way Out Wil-lie
-4 -4 -4 -5 -4 -3 3 3 -4
He’s got a cool lit-tle chick
-3* -3*-3* -3* -3 -3 -3
called Rock-in’ Mil-lie
3 3 3 2 -1
He can walk and stroll and Su-sie Q
4 4 4 4 4 4 -5 4 -3*
And do that cra-zy hand jive too
3 -4 -5 -4 3 3 3 2-1
Pa pa told Wil lie, you’ll ruin my home
-4 -4 -4 -5 -4 -3 3 3 -4
You and that hand jive has got to go
-3* -3* -3 -3 3 3 3 3 2-1
Wil-lie said, Pa-pa, don’t put me down
4 4 4 4 4 4 -5 4 -3*
They’re do-in’ the hand jive all ov-er town
3 -4 -4 -5 -4 3 3 3 3 2-1
Hand jive, hand jive, hand jive,
-3* 3 -3* 3 -3* -3
do-in’ that cra-zy hand jive
-5 -5 4 -3* -3 3 3
Mama, Mama look at Uncle Joe
He’s doin’ that hand jive with sister Flo
Grandma gave baby sister a dime
Said, do that hand jive one more time
Well, the doctor and the lawyer and Indian chief
They all dig that crazy beat
Way Out Willie gave ’em all a treat
When he did that hand jive with his feet
Hand jive, hand jive, hand jive,
do-in’ that cra-zy hand jive
Willie and Nillie got married last fall
They had a little Willie Junior, and a-that ain’t all
You know, the baby got famous in his crib, you see
Doin’ that hand jive on TV
Hand jive, hand jive, hand jive,
do-in’ that cra-zy hand jive

To make this piece a little easier to play for myself, portions of this have been lowered by an octave. One part is the section starting with a series of blow 5’s as the original has this being played on the higher notes with some cords involved. I still think that this sounds ok when lowered.
I have marked this with a difficulty of intermediate. Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of the notes used, to play this at the correct speed I believe requires some skill. You will need to look up and listen to some examples as even if you think you know the tune well, chances are that like me, you were mistaken with the way you thought the tune went.
