Black Winter Night

-7 -7 -7 6 6 6 -7 -7
Day after day as I bo-dies slay.
-8 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8 7 -7 -7
And the sun be-comes dark in the sky.
7 7 7 7 7 -7 6 -6 -7
E-very-thing’s lost for this hu-man race.
-7 -7 -7 -7 -7 -7 -6 6 -7 -6
And the dawn of a new age will ri-se.

6 6 6 5 5 6 -6
Rays of sun-light now are gone.
-7 6 6 6 -8 -8 -8 -8 7 -7
Only vi-sions of ice will re-ma-i—n.
7 7 7 7 -7 6 -6 -7 -7
The fal-len ones and for-got-ten souls,
-7 -7 -7 7 -6 -7
will rise up over the slain.

-7 -6 6
No more hope,
6 6 -8 -8 -8 7 -7 -7
as we raise our hands to the sky.
-7 -6 6
No more dreams,
6 -7 -7 -7 7 -8
as the ri-vers run dry.

-7 -7 -7 -7 6 6 -7 -7
E-very-thing’s lost, all is left astray.
-8 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8 7 -7
Only sor-row and sad-ness re-mains.
7 7 7 7 7 -7 6 -6 -7
Cur-tains have dropped on our fal-len world.
-7 -7 -7 -7 -7 -7 -6 6 -7 -6
And the for-ces of dark-ness shall ri-se.

6 6 6 6 5 5 5 6 -6 -7
Why can’t you see what has hap-pened to thee.
-8 -8 -8 -8 7 -7 -7
Can you not o-pen your eyes?
7 7 7 7
E-very-thing’s lost,
7 -7 6 -6 -7
there is no re-treat.
-7 -7 -7 -7 -7 7 -6 -7
And the val-leys e-cho with pain.

-7 -6 6
No more hope,
6 6 -8 -8 -8 7 -7 -7
as we raise our hands to the sky.
-7 -6 6
No more dreams,
6 -7 -7 -7 7 -8
as the ri-vers run dry.

6 -6 -7 -7 -7 -7 7 6
On the end-less sea of mad-ness,
6 -8 -8 7 -7 -6
we sail for-e-ver more.
6 -6 -7 -7 -7 -7 -7 6
And the end-less tears of sad-ness,
-8 -8 -8 7 -7 -6
to-wards the di-stant shores.
6 -6 -7 -7 -7 -7 -7 6
When the flame has died for-e-ver,
6 -8 7 -7 -6
we stand one and all.
6 -5 6 6 6 6 6 -6 -7 -8
With the po-wer of the al-migh-ty sword.

Black Velvet Band-Chorus

In a neat little town they call Belfast,
An apprentice boy I was bound,
And many’s the happy hour
I have spent in that neat little town.
But bad misfortune o’ertook me,
And caused me to stray from the land,
Far away from my friends and relations,
Betrayed by the black velvet band.
Oh, one evening late as I rambled,
Not meaning to go very far,
When I met with a gay young deceiver.
She was plyin’ her trade in a bar.

6 6 6 5 -5 6 -5 5
Oh, her eyes they shone like diamonds,

-4 4 -4 5 4 -3 3 3
Youd think she was queen of the land,

6 -5 5 5 3 3 -3 4 -4 5
And her hair hung over her shoulders,

4 -4 5 -5 -3 4 -4 4
Tied up with a black velvet band.

Oh, one evening a flashman, a watchman
She happened to meet on the sly.
I could tell that her mind it was altered,
By the roll of her roving dark eye.
Oh, that watch she took from his pocket.
She slipped it right into my hand.
Then she gave me in charge to the policeman.
Bad luck to the black velvet band.

Now before the Lord Mayor I was taken.
My guilt they proved quite plain,
And he said if I was not mistaken,
I should have to cross the salt main.
Now its sixteen long years have they gave me,
To plough upon Van Dieman’s land,
Far away from my friends and relations,
A curse on the black velvet band.

5. So come all ye jolly young fellows,
I’ll have ye take warning from me.
Whenever you’re out on the liquor,
Beware of them pretty colleens.
They’ll treat you to whiskey and porter,
Till you are not able to stand;
And the very next thing that you know, my lads,
You’ll end up in Van Dieman’s land.

Black And White (The Envy)

4 6 -5 -5 5 5
I’m fal-ling from the sky.
4 4 4 6 -5 -5 5 5
In-to your dreams a-gain to-night.
4 4 6 -5 -5 5 5 -4 -4 4 4
And this time I’m hold-ing on-to you for life.

4 4 6 -5 -5 5 5
In my arms I hold you tight.
4 4 6 -5 -5 5 5
In my dreams a-gain to-night.
4 6 -5 -5 5 5 -4 -4 4 4
And no-things e-ver felt so black and white.

4 -5 5 -4 4 -4
So hang on ba-by girl.

To-night I might be half-way

I miss you girl.

4 -6 6 -6 6 -6 6 5 -4 5
So o-pen up the high-way in the sky.
4 -6 6 -6 6 -6 6 5 -4 5
To see an an-gel wake I’d fly all night.

All night.
4 -6 6 -6 6 -6 6 5 -4 5
So mar-ry me, oh mar-ry me to-night.
-4 5 -4 5 -4 4 -3 3
Cause no-things e-ver been so right.

I’ve ne-ver felt so black and white.

You’re so far a-way from me.
4 4 4 6 -5 -5 5 5
But you’re the on-ly thing I see.
4 4 6 -5 -5 5 5 -4 -4 4
And I close my eyes just to feel you breathe.

4 6 -5 -5 5 5
You’re on the o-ther-side.

But the o-ceans can’t di-vide.
4 6 -5 -5 5 5 -4 -4 4 4
Your voice it al-ways finds me in the night.

Through sa-te-llite.

Black Hole Sun

Indisposed

In disguise

As no one knows

Summer stench

neath the black

The sky looks dead

Call my name

Through the cream

And Ill hear you Scream again

Black hole sun
4 –3 –3
Wont you come

Black Girl / In The Pines

Black Girl / In The Pines — Nirvana / Leadbelly

I know that Nirvana doesn’t sing the words «Black Girl.» Somesay Leadbelly was the original songwriter, but the original publication of any version of this song was actually before Leadbelly and it was called «Black Girl» as he sings in one of his versions. It’s a about a white man who falls in love with a black woman whose husband was killed on the railroad. There are many versions of lyrics to the song. This version I have in E, using an A Harp.

E A G

-7 6 -7 -8 -8 -8 7 6 -7b

Black Girl, Black Girl, don’t lie — to me.

B Em

7 7 -8 -8 7 -7b -7 6

Tell me where did you sleep last night?

Em

In The Pines, In The Pines,

A G

where the sun — don’t ev — er shine.

B Em

7 7 -8 -8 7 -7b -7 6

I would shiver the whole night through.

Black Girl, Black Girl, where will you go?

I’m going where the cold wind blows.

In The Pines, In The Pines,

where th sun don’t ever shine.

I would shiver the whole night through.

Here husband was a hard working man,

Just about a mile from here.

His head was found in a driving wheel,

But his body never was found.

Black Girl, Black Girl, where will you go?

I’m going where the cold wind blows.

In The Pines, In The Pines,

where th sun don’t ever shine.

I would shiver the whole night through.
