Bygdefest i grenda

Melodi: Julekveld i skogen

7 -6 6 -6 6 -5 4 3
Det var bygdefest i grenda,
7 -6 6 -6 6 -5 4
Der man ikke skulle tro,
4 -4 -3 4 -6 -7 7 6
At de med vett i hodet,
4 -4 -3 -4 4 6 -5
Kunne finne på å bo.
7 -6 6 -6 6 -5 4 3
Men fest det ble det jammen,
7 -6 6 -6 6 -5 4
Det begynte klokka ni,
4 -4 -3 4 -6 -7 7 6
Og etter en halv time,
4 -4 3 6 6 -5 4
Så var samtlige på gli.

-5 4 -4 4 -5 -4 3 3 7 -6 6 -6 6 -5 4

Stakkars bygdemannens sinn,

Gjemt brennevinet trygt.

Han bykset seg opp trappen, opp mot loft og galleri,
Her på i skaper skulle finnes godt, med flere prosent i.

Og den gamle husket riktig,
Her på loftet fantes børst,
Han tok ut en liten flaske også,
Slukket han sin tørst,
Derpå bars det ned på gulvet,
Og forsamlingen ble tyst,
Før Den gamles gamle varer så ble,
Mottatt med stor lyst.

Nå gikk stemningen i taket,
Og de hygget seg og drakk,
Selv om alle syntes merke det,
At verden lå på skakk,
Det siste huskes ikke,
Av den hyggelige kveld,
Men en ting det er sikkert:
Det ble fest allikevel!

suppose considering the film title and story !!!) I decided to buy the

By the Waters of the Minnetonka

According to one account, «By the Waters» was inspired by an ancient
Sioux love song sung for Lieurance in 1911 by one Sitting Eagle. The
legend a*sociated with the song has also been preserved and reads like
a Native American version of Romeo and Juliet.

**NOTE: Might not be exactly right in some spots, but close. YouTube
this song by Richard Cook for his version.

As on they move.

3 5 5 4 3 6 -6 5
Hear thou, My vow

5-4 5-4 4 3 -2 2
To live, to die.

3 5 5 4 3 6 -6 5
Moon Deer, Thee near,

5 5 -4 5 -2 4
Beneath this sky.

so many times before.

4 4 -8 8 -8 -8 7 -7 -9 8
She just didn’t know I would really go

By the time I make Alburquerque she’ll be working.
She’ll probably stop and lunch and give me a call.
But she’ll just hear that phone
Keep on ringing off the wall—
———that’s all.

By the time I make Oklahoma she’ll be sleeping.
She’ll turn softly and call my name out low.
And she’ll cry just to think
I’d really leave her
Though time and time I’ve tried to tell her so.

Buttons and Bows

lyrics and music: Jay Livingston, Ray Evans

verse 1:

6 -6 7 -8 8 9 -10
East is East and West is West

-10 9 -10 9 8 7 8
and the wrong one I have chose.

-10 -10 -10 -10 9 8 -8 7
Let’s go where I’ll keep on wearin’

-6 6 7 -6 -6
those frills and flowers

7 6 6 7 -6
And buttons and bows,

6 7 -6 7 -7 7 -8 7
rings and things and buttons and bows.

verse 2:

Don’t bury me in this prairie,
take me where the cement grows.
Let’s move down to some big town
where they love a gal by
the cut o’ her clothes
and I’ll stand out in buttons and bows.

chorus:

7 7 -8 7 -10 -9
I’ll love you in buckskin,

9 -10 -10 9 -9 8
or shirts that I’ve home spun

8 -9 9 -10 8 7 8 7
But I’ll love ya longer, stronger

8 7 -10 -10 9 -9 9
where yer friends don’t tote a gun.

verse 3:

My bones denounce the buckboard bounce,
and the cactus hurts my toes.
Let’s vamoose to where the gals keep usin’
those silks and satins and linen that shows,
and I’m all yours in buttons and bows.

verse 4:

Gimme eastern trimmin’ where women are women,
in high silk hose and peek-a-boo clothes,
and French perfume that rocks the room,
and I’m all yours in buttons and bows.
