Believe In Me If All These Endearing

Trad. Irish folk song
Thomas Moore
Key: D
Time: 6/8

-2* 2 -1 2 -1 -1 -2*
Be-lieve me if all those
-3 3 -4 -5 -5
en-dear-ing young charms
4* -4 -3 3 -2* 2 -1 2 -2*
Which I gaze on so fond-ly to-day
-2* 2 -1 2 -1 -1 -2*
Were to change by to-mor-row
-3 3 -4 -5 -5
and flee from my arms
4*-4 -3 -5 -2* 2 -1 2 -1
Like fai-ry gifts fad-ing a-way
-3 3 -2* -3 -5 -5
Thou woulds’t still be a-dored
-3 -3 -4 3 -5 -5
as this mo-ment thou art
4* -4 -3 3 -2* 2 -1 2 -2*
Let thy love-li-ness fade as it will
-2* 2 -1 2 -1 -1 -2*
And a-round the dear ru-in
-3 3 -4 -5 -5
each wish of my heart
4* -4 -3 -5 -2* 2 -1 2 -1
Would en-twine it-self ver-dant-ly still

It is not while beauty and youth are thine own
And thy cheeks unprofaned by a tear
That the fervour and faith of a soul can be known
To which time will but make thee more dear
No the heart which has truly loved never forgets
But as truly loves on to the close
As the sunflower turns on her guard when he sets
The same look which she turned when he rose

Stands a chimney so tall

That says Belfast Mill

VERSE 1:

4 4 -4 4
He walked on Earth

6 -6 6 5 4 -4 4
Showing glimpses of heaven

4 4 4 -4 4 6 -6 6 -6
Demons, death disease had no ha-nd

4 4 4 -4 4
The wind and the waves

6 -6 6 5 4 -4 4
Were obedient before him

4 4 -4 4
Now may they say

4 5 -5 6 -6
Who is this ma-n?

CHORUS:

6 7 7 -7 7 -8
Behold the lamb of God

6 7 7 -7 6 -6
Who takes away our sin

6 7 -7 7 8
The light of the world

7 7 6 -6
The son of God

7 7 -7 7 -8
Worthy is the lamb

7 7 7 6 -6
To receive our praise

6 7 -7 7 8
The light of the world

7 7 6 -6
The son of God

Bei Mir Bist Du Schon (Chorus)

M: Sholom Secunda
W: Sammy Cahn & Saul Chaplin
Key:Am

Of all the boys I’ve known,
and I’ve known some
Until I first met you, I was lonesome
And when you came in sight,
dear, my heart grew light
And this old world seemed new to me

You’re really swell, I have to admit you
Deserve expressions that really fit you
And so I’ve racked my brain,
hoping to explain
All the things that you do to me

Chorus
Bei mir bist du schon,
2 4 -4 -3 4
please let me explain
2 4 -4 -3 4
Bei mir bist du schon
4 -4 3* 2 -4
means that you’re grand
-4 4 -4 -3
Bei mir bist du schon,
2 4 -4 -3 4
again I’ll explain
2 4 -4 -3 4
It means you’re the fairest in the land
4 -4 3* 2 -4 -4 4 -4 -3
I could say “Bella, bella”,
-3 -4 4 -5 -3 -5 5
even say “Voonderbar”

-3 -4 4 -5-3 -5 5

-4 -3 6 6 6 6
I’ve tried to explain,
2 4 -4 -3 4

Behold The Savior Of Mankind

By: Samuel Wesley, Sr
Christian hymn
Key: Bb

3 3 -3 -3* -3 3 3 -2*
Be-hold the Sav-ior of Man-kind
-3* -5 5 -3* -3 -3*
Nailed to the shame-ful tree!
-3* -5 5 -3* -3 3 3 -2*
How vast the love that has in-clined
-3* -3 3 3 -2* 3 3 3
To bleed and die for thee! A-men

Hark, how He groans, while nature shakes,
And earth’s strong pillars bend!
The temple’s veil in sunder breaks;
The solid marbles rend.
‘Tis done! the precious ransom’s paid!
“Receive my soul!” He cries;
See where He bows His sacred head!
He bows His head and dies!
But soon He’ll break death’s envious chain,
And in full glory shine;
O Lamb of God, was ever pain,
Was ever love, like Thine?

-5 8 8 -8 8 -7
I’m torn in-to pie-ces,

-6b -6 7 -7 -6b 7 -7
can’t de-ny it, can’t pre-tend

-5 8 8 8 -7 -6
Just thought you were the one

-6b 7 -7 -5 7 -7
Bro-ken up, deep in-side

-5 8 8 8 -8 8
But you won’t get to see

-7 -6b 7 -7
the tears I cry

-5 8 8 8 -7 -6
Be-hind these ha-zel eyes

Verse 2 same as 1
I told you everything, opened up and let you in
You made me feel alright, for once in my life
Now all that’s left of me is what I pretend to be
So together, but so broken up inside
Cause I can’t breathe, no I can’t sleep
I’m barely hanging on

(CHORUS)

-6 -6b 7 -6b 7 -6b 5
Swal-low me, then spit me out

4 7 -6b 7 -6b 7 -6b -7
For hat-ing you, I blame my-self

7 -6b 7 -6b 7 -6b 5
See-ing you, it kills me now

-7 9 8 -7 7 9 8 -7 9 -9 -9
No, I don’t cry on the out-side an-y-more

-7 7 7
An-y-more

(CHORUS TWICE TO END)

ENJOY!!

Behind The Tear

By: Ned & Sue Miller
Sonny James
Key: C

6 -6 -7 -7 -7 -6 -5
Be-hind the tear there’s a hurt
-4 5 -7 -6 6 -6 6 5
Be-hind the hurt a bro-ken heart
4 5 -6 6 -6 6
Be-hind that bro-ken heart
-5 -5 -4 4 -4 5
there lies a bro-ken dream
6 -6 7 -7 -7 -6 -5
Be-hind the dream there’s a fool
-4 -5 -7 -6 6 -6 6 5
Be-hind the fool a wast-ed love
4 5 -6 6 -6
You broke my heart and
6 -5 -5 -4 4 -3 4
I’m the fool be-hind the tear

5 5 5 6 7 6 5 -4 -6
Look here on my cheek there’s a tear-drop
7 -7 6 -5 6 -6 6 6 -5 5
Oh not much big-ger than a grain of sand
6 5 5 5 6 7
Don’t turn your head look close
6 -5 5 -4 -6
Be-hind the tear-drop
-6 -6 7 -7 -6 6
You’ll see the hurt you left
-6 6 5 -4 -3 4
In-side a lone-ly man

REPEAT

Behind Closed Doors

4 5 6 6 5 6
My baby makes me proud
7 -6 -5 5 -4 4 5
Lord, don’t she make me proud
4 5 6 6 -6 6
she never makes a scene
6 -5 6 -6 -8 7 7 4 4 -5 -4
By hangin’ all over me in a crowd

4 5 6 6 5 6
‘Cause people like to talk
7 -6 -5 5-4 4 5
Lord, don’t they love to talk
4 4 -4 5 6 -6 7
But when they turn out the lights
4 7 -6 -5 5 -4 -3 4
I know she’ll be leavin’ with me

5 5 -5 6 5 -6 6 5
And when we get behind closed doors
5 -5 -6 5 -6 6 5
Then she let’s her hair hang down
5 -5 6 5 7 7 -8 7 8 -8 7
And she makes me glad that I’m a man
4 -6 6 5 4 -6 6 4 -5 5 4
Oh, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors

4 5 6 6 5 6
My baby makes me smile
7 -6 -5 5 -4 4 5
Lord, don’t she make me smile
4 5 6 6 5 6
she’s never far away
4 5 -6 7 -7 4 5 -4
Or too tired to say I want you

4 5 6 5 -6 6
She’s always a lady
7 -6 -5 5 -4 4 5
Just like a lady should be
4 4 -4 5 6 -6 7
But when they turn out the lights
7 -6 -5 5 -4 -3 4
She’s still my baby to me

5 5 -5 6 5 -6 6 5
‘Cause when we get behind closed doors
5 -5 -6 5 -6 6 5
Then she let’s her hair hang down
5 -5 6 5 7 -8 7 8 -8 7
And she makes me glad I’m a man
4 -6 6 5 4 -6 6 4 -5 5 4
Oh, no one knows what goes on behind closed doors

Behind blue eyes.

5 5 5 -4 4 5
No one knows what it’s like
5 5 5 -4 4
To be the bad man
5 5 5 -4 4
To be the sad man
5 5 -5 5
Behind blue eyes

No one knows what it’s like
5 5 -4 4
To be hated
5 5 -4 4
To be fated
5 5 -5 5 -5 5
To telling only lies

5 6 7
But my dreams
-6 6 -5 5 6
They aren’t as empty
5 6 -6 6 5 -4 4
As my conscience seems to be

5 6 -6 6 6 -7 6 -7
I have hours, only lonely
5 -5 6 -5 5
My love is vengeance
-5 5 -4 5
That’s never free

5 5 5 -4 4 5
No one knows what it’s like
5 5 5 -4 4
To feel these feelings
5 -5 5
Like I do
-4 4 5 5
And I blame you

Beginner’s Riff

Very simple riff that I use when testing out harps. Sounds nice, is
easy to play.

~ = 1 vibrato

_ = hold note

-3 4 -4_~~~___ 4_ -4~-3 3 2 3 -3 3

Begin The beguine

4 -4 5 6 5 -4 5
When they begin the Beguine
4 4 -4 5 -6 6 6-5 5 -5 -4
It brings back the sound of music so tender
-4 -4 5 -5 -8 7 7 -7 -6 7 -6
It brings back a night of tropical splendour
-4 -4 5 -5 6 6 6 -5 5 5
It brings back a memory ever green
4 4 -4 5 6 5 -4 4 5
I’m with you once more under the stars
4 4 -4 5 -7 -6 6 -5 5 -5 -4
And down by the shore an orchestra’s playing
-4 -4 5 -5 8 -8 7 -7 7 -6
And even the palms seem to be swaying
-4 5 -5 6 -5 5 4
When they begin the Beguine
7 -8 8 8 8 8 -8 7 8
So just let them begin the Beguine
7 -8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8 -8 7 -7 6
Let the love that was once a fire remain an ember
-6 -7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7 7-7 -6 6 5
Let it sleep like the dead desire I only remember
-4 5 -5 6 -5 5 6
When they begin the Beguine
7 -8 8 8 8 8 8 8 8
Oh yes let them begin the Beguine
8 8 8
make them play
7 -8 8 8 8 8 8 -9
Till the stars that were there before
8 -8 7 -7 6
return above you
-6 -7 7 7 7 7 7 -8
Till you whisper to me once more
7 -7 -6 6 5
darling I love you
5 5 4 5 -5 6 6 -4 5 -5 6
And we suddenly know what heaven we’re in
-4 5 -5 6 -5 5 4
When they begin the Beguine
-4 5 -5 6 -6 7 7
When they begin the Beguine

Begin Again

6 6 6 6 -6 5 5 5
Took a deep breath in the mirror.

5 6 6 6 6 6 6 -6 5 5
He didn’t like it when I wore high heels,

5 -55 3 -55 3
but I do, I do

repeat with:
Turn the lock and put my headphones on.
He always said he didn’t get this song
But I do, I do

Walked in expecting you’d be late, but you got here early and you
stand and wave, I walk to you

You pull my chair out and help me in.
And you don’t know how nice that is,
But I do

-6 -6 7 -6 7 7 6 6 6 6 7 -6 8-8
And you throw your head back., laughing like a little kid

-6 7 -6 7 7 -6 7 7 66 6 7 7 -6 8-8
I think its strange that you think I’m funny ‘cause he never did

6 -6 7 7 7 -6 7 7 -6 -6 7 7 7
and I’ve been spending the last eight months thinking all love

-8-6 6 -5 5 5 -4 4 5
ever does is break and burn and end

4 4 4 5 -5 4 4 5 -4 4 -4 -4 54 4 4
But on a Wednesday in a cafe, I watched it begin again

-7 7 8 -6 5 6 5 6 6
And we walked down the block to my car

5 6 6 6 6 -5 6 6 8 -6 5 6
and I almost brought him up, but you start to talk

5 5 6 6 -5 5 -5 6-5 5 4 -77 7-7 -6 6
about the movies that your family watches every single Christmas

6 6 6 6 -7 7-7 6 5 5 5 5 4
and I want to talk about that. And for the first time,

5 -5 5 4
what’s past, is past.

4 4 4 5 -5 4 4 5-4 4 -4 -4 54 4 4
But on a Wednesday, in a cafe, I watched it begin again.

Begginner Blues Riffs

All the following riffs can be used for improvising over music.

A simple improvisation would be a one (I) four (IV) five (V) chord progression which consists of holes:

123 draw = I 345 blow = IV 345 draw = V

Chords can also be turned into trills by shaking your tongue side to side rapidly over the three holes.

So for a twelve bar blues there would be 4 bars of I chord, 2 bars of IV chord, 2 bars of I chord, 1 bar of V, 1 bar of IV and 2 bars of I.

Many of the following riffs can be used as part of a complete 12 bar blues progression by changing the note which the riff ends on.

I chord = 2/3+, 6+, 9+

IV chord = 1+, 4+, 7+

V chord = 1, 4, 8

1 2+ 2

2 3′ 4+ 4

4 4+ 3′ 2

2 3′

note: this riff can be repeated on its own as in the song ‘Spoonful’ or the 2 and 3′ can be repeated to fit the music.

2 2” / 2” 2

2 4+ 3′ 2

2 3′ 4 5+ 6+ (6+) / 3 – 6+

note: 3 – 6+ denotes a blow octave where your mouth covers four holes but you rest your tongue on the piece of plastic or wood inbetween the middle holes so that the outside notes play only (do not push your tongue on the piece of wood as this will make it difficult to move from octave to octave)

6+ 5 4 4+ 3′ 2

This riff can be turned into a fast triplet riff (three notes to a beat):

6+ 5 4 4+ 4 3′ 2

6 6+ 5 4 3′ 3′ 2

tip: the riff above is useful for using up the final two bars of a solo, for example.

2 3′ 4 5+ 5 5+ 4

1 2+ 1 2+ 1 2+ 1

1 2+ 2 3′ 4 5+ 4 (5+)

2 3′ 4+ 4^ 4+ 3′ 4 > 2 2

These are most of the riffs a beginner harp player really needs. Remember, there is nothing wrong with using the same riffs in different songs so long as you use them in a different way to suit the music.

Beginners should practice these riffs regularly in order for them to be ingrained into your muscle memory, that way the riffs will come naturally without you even thinking about it, so don’t give up if you are finding the harder riffs a bit tricky.
